Practice

Dipl.-Ing. architect Jürgen Wichmann – architecture in Berlin since 1985, at home in Kreuzberg.

It all began with careful urban renewal: block reports and concepts for the International Building Exhibition IBA 1987 in Kreuzberg, commissioned by S.T.E.R.N. GmbH. That approach still shapes the work today – taking the existing fabric seriously, drawing out its qualities and building on in a way that lets buildings keep their history.

Four decades of practice have grown from those beginnings: modernisation and refurbishment of Berlin tenement houses – from the Chamissoplatz conservation area to the listed Krumme Lanke forest estate –, loft conversions and roof additions, new buildings from single-family houses to an apartment building with 12 flats, and the ongoing management of residential buildings in Berlin and Lübeck. Jürgen Wichmann is a member of the Berlin Chamber of Architects (member no. 03328).

Olivera Reuther

Diplom-Ingenieurin of Architecture · Berlin University of the Arts (UdK)

For several years now, Olivera Reuther has strengthened the practice. She combines classic planning practice – floor plan, light, proportion, approvability – with something special: planning according to Vastu Shastra, the millennia-old Indian science of building.

Rooms planned according to Vastu arrange orientation, light and proportion deliberately – around an open, calm centre, following the course of the sun. A house designed with Vastu does not look “Indian”: it looks like a well-designed house – and feels different.
